Hi Mark, thanks for joining the conversation and suggesting DotEasy. I took a look and they're very clear about the fact that they don't put ad banners on sites hosted under their free plan, which is great.

The only caveat that I see (and I'm not a customer - this is just from my five-minute tour of the DotEasy site) is that hosting is free IF you register a domain name with them, which costs $25/year. While that's more than the $10/year going rate for domain names, it's also far less than paying a $10/month hosting fee. Looks like it's worth considering for those who aren't quite ready for WordPress.

As for our advice being the same...that's quite cool, and all I can say is "great minds think alike!"

Hi Wendy. I really like this series of articles you're writing, I think they're great for the beginner wondering what to do and where to start. I've been doing something similar myself and it is reassuring to know our advice is effectively the same.

A note on the free hosting... I've used DotEasy for many years now. They do offer ad-free hosting if you only need very basic hosting (no database for WordPress). This makes it a perfect solution for freely putting a Blogger blog on your own domain. They also have a few nice (free) tools for creating forms etc.

At this moment in time, my site and blog are hosted freely with DotEasy. In all honesty, I'm considering the move to WordPress and paid hosting. However, for your readers with a limited budget, DotEasy could be well be worth looking at.
