For awhile now, I’ve been wanting to create a series of email messages called “Heart-Centered Technology Tips” and send it out on Tuesdays (Tuesday Tech Tips! Rolls right off the tongue!).
So a week and a half ago, I set up my email signup form…yet when last Tuesday rolled around, I didn’t send anything out.
I told myself it was OK to delay because I wanted to write some brilliant, thoughtful tips that would change the world for the better…and I wanted to set them up in a custom-designed email template that would reach out and touch my readers…and I wanted to set up a web home for my archives…and…
You get the idea. I was polishing my Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech before I’d written a single word. And, ironically enough, I was letting technology be part of my excuse! I wanted to showcase all the technologically brilliant things I can do…instead of letting technology that others have created (in this case, Blogger and AWeber) help me do something easily and effortlessly.
So I’m taking a risk, trusting that my own experience has created the perfect first tip for this series.
This Week’s Heart of the Matter: Don’t let technology become an excuse. Pick a place to start, at a technological level where you feel comfortable, and start. Start something. Start anything. Even sending an email asking for help is a start!
In my case, “starting” meant realizing that it wasn’t the custom email template that was holding me back — it was my fear of putting my words out there in a public place. Logging into Blogger and creating a new post for my blog is something I already know how to do and can do easily. And then I can put that blog post into an email newsletter format, without obsessing about the design of it, because the words are what are important.
Now I’ve started. That first step means I’m now looking forward to next Tuesday, and all the Tuesdays after that. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
